Rambert’s latest offering of A Linha Curva & Other Works is a wonderfully mixed bag showcasing three inventive and exhilarating pieces. From the offset, A Linha Curva choreographed by Itzik Galili divulges an utterly infectious energy with its amalgamation of samba percussionists, kaleidoscopic lighting and vivacious moments. Symbiosis choreographed by internationally acclaimed Andonis Foniadakis perfectly displays the incredible technique and skill of the Rambert dancers as they converge, collide and intertwine. Displaying a delightful juxtaposition of angular movements and fluidity the piece portrays ‘the dynamic patterns of behaviour and energy created in cities every day’.
Rising star Ben Duke’s honest and highly emotive Goat closes the show in a spectacular fashion. A perhaps brutal subversion of modern life, the at times darkly funny piece is inspired by the music and spirit of Nina Simone and masterfully takes both the dancers and the audience out of their comfort zone. Rambert is Britain’s oldest dance company and one can see why it houses some of the finest dancers in the world. They are currently on tour in the UK, be sure not to miss them.
